The Greater Boston League (GBL) aims to develop and maintain culturally sensitive, comprehensive interscholastic sports programming among member schools as an integral component of the total educational process.
Foremost, the GBL member schools support high school athletics where students, coaches, teachers, administrators, parents, and community members collaborate; where wholesome competition is fostered; where student-athletes play and participate to the best of their abilities; where professional coaches provide student-athletes with opportunities for psychomotor and cognitive skill development; where diversity is celebrated and the dignity of all is respected; and where interscholastic athletic programs instill attitudes that benefit student-athletes throughout life, providing for individual growth and the overall enrichment of the community.
We believe student participation in interscholastic athletics:
The Greater Boston League boasts a rich history of athletic excellence and competition across all sports. Long-standing regional rivalries between member schools have helped build a tradition of athletic excellence; our teams are often among the best in the state, and hundreds of GBL student-athletes have gone on to play in college and professionally. Moreover, GBL alumni are leaders and engaged citizens.
In 2019, Everett, Malden, Medford, Revere, and Somerville reestablished the Greater Boston League after a two-year trial merger with the Northeastern Conference. With this renewed commitment to the mission and values of the GBL, our student-athletes, coaches, and administrators are proud to carry on the legacy of the League and represent our local communities with integrity and heart.
